Katie D.CVT, Lead TechnicianKatie has been passionate about animals for as long as she can remember. She began volunteering at her local animal shelter at just 13 years old and later attended Norfolk Aggie, where she majored in Canine Science. There, she developed a strong foundation in animal husbandry, canine training, and handling exotic species. Outside of the clinic, Katie shares her life with Layla, a spirited pittie mix she adopted after the pup was found abandoned and locked in a bathroom. Described as a “little firecracker,” Layla keeps Katie busy with their shared love of nosework, agility, rally, and just about anything active and fun. Layla’s all-time favorite pastime? Chasing seagulls on the beach.

Freddie Mercury Clinic CatUPDATE: Freddie has been adopted and now lives the life of luxury in a very warm, loving and caring home. We are so happy for him.
Meet Freddie, our resident sweetheart and professional snuggler. He came to us after a kind-hearted Good Samaritan found him in their garden with a badly injured leg, unmanaged diabetes, and FIV. Despite the rough hand he’d been dealt, Freddie’s gentle, loving nature was obvious from day one.
Since joining the Pembroke Animal Hospital family, Freddie has made an incredible comeback. Now in diabetic remission and steadily gaining healthy weight, he’s thriving—and so is his big personality. Freddie is a chatty little guy with a lot of opinions, especially when it comes to mealtime or lap availability.
He’s officially taken on the role of clinic cat, and he takes his job seriously—roaming the halls, greeting staff, and making sure no lap goes un-sat-on. If you find him curled up in your arms, cancel your plans—you’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
Freddie reminds us every day how far love, care, and a little determination can go. We’re so lucky to have him as part of our team.
